Frequently Asked Questions
Is my child’s development within the normal range?
Our reading room provides an overview of speech & language milestones according to key stages of development.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. Simply contact us and we will be happy to arrange your appointment.
How long will I have to wait for an appointment?
You are likely to be seen within the week. We do not operate waiting lists and if in the unlikely event we are unable to accommodate you, will refer you on to another local therapist.
How long is each session?
Sessions vary between 30-60 minutes depending on the age of your child and the purpose of the appointment. Assessments generally take longer than an average therapy session would. Similarly younger children typically cope better with shorter appointments of 30 minutes.
How often will we need to attend?
On average children tend to attend sessions once per week unless they have more complex needs, but this really depends on the nature of the problem and the level of concern. We will be happy to discuss this with you and make recommendations regarding this once we know you and your child better.
How long will therapy take?
It is never easy to predict treatment length since many factors influence the progress rate of therapy. Depending on the nature and severity of the difficulty your child has, therapy could last from just a few weeks to a number of months. Children with complex needs may need longer term support. If this is the case we will be happy to discuss and agree a number of therapy sessions with a review date for future decision making.
How do I pay?
We have HICAPS and various card facilities available, accepting Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
FAHCSIA has now been replaced by NDIS funding. We are able to work with self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants.
School clients will need to sign consent to bill your credit / debit card in your absence. School based fees must be settled in full first and then reclaimed in person from your private medical insurance as HICAPS transactions can only be generated by swiping your membership card. Invoices are issued at the end of each week.
Can I use NDIS Funding?
Yes, support the NDIS and welcome all self-managed or plan-managed participants.
How do I access Medicare Sessions?
Your GP's can provide an EPC letter which enables eligible families to access 5 rebated sessions from Medicare. Medicare contribute- +/- $55 towards each of the 5 sessions which can be renewed annually with a new EPC plan. This must be initiated by your GP. To be eligible your child should :
Are you open Saturdays?
No. We have young families ourselves and try to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
We live far away. Do you provide home visits?
Generally no. These prove to be very costly and eat into budgets so we encourage school or clinic based visits to stretch funding as much as possible. However, if this is not possible for whatever reason, please speak to our team and we will see what options are available for you. This may include onward referral to other local providers. Any agreed home visits incur a travel charge to and from the clinic.
